Las Caletas too perfect to pass up

Kathy and Kelly Stolp shared with us their experience at Las Caletas, and we want to share it with you.

Kathy & Kelly wedding at Puerto Vallarta

The destination

“We knew that we wanted a destination wedding and some of our friends and family told us how great Puerto Vallarta is, so we decided to look there. When my maid of honor sent me the link to Las Caletas I knew my search was over. It is too perfect to pass up.”

Beach view

The planning

“Our event coordinator was Kelley who is simply amazing.  The planning was so stress-free I got stressed out thinking that I was not stressed enough.”

The ceremony

The wedding

“The whole day was bliss. I cant even pick a favorite moment, because the whole day was so perfect. People have told us that our wedding will never be topped! I believe them. Everything about the wedding was beautiful. The beach is perfect, the food, the décor and the service were all top notch!”

Caletas' Wedding Cake

Tips for future brides

“Do not be afraid to ask for what you want. Everyone at Vallarta Adventures wants to make this day the best day of your life. Oh, and be prepared for everyone to talk about your wedding for months.. even YEARS after you all head home.”

Featured Caletas Couple

The couple: Luke and Trisha Selden
The date: November 3, 2009

Every so often we love to feature a couple who was recently married at Las Caletas so they can tell you about their special day in their own words. This month we are featuring Luke and Trisha.

We asked Trisha a few questions, including the proposal……..

tri16a

Trisha: We were on vacation in San Antonio for a long weekend get-away.
Luke surprised me with a ring on the Riverwalk while taking a stroll after a nice dinner.   After I said yes, we went out to celebrate.  When we got back to the hotel, Luke had arranged for the room to be decorated with flowers, champagne and candles.  The whole night surprised me because I never thought he would propose while on vacation.  He is such a nervous traveler that I never suspected he would try to get a ring through security!!

How did you discover Las Caletas and what made you chose it for your destination wedding?

I first stumbled upon Adventure Weddings and Las Caletas when thumbing through a destination wedding magazine.  I started doing more detailed research on the location and loved the intimacy and charm.  By looking at photos from other weddings at Las Caletas, it was clear that the staff could put together a memorable event.  We decided to pay a deposit to hold our wedding day after I spoke with other brides who confirmed that their experience had been magical.  Finally, our site visit in February sealed the deal.  When we arrived, the location absolutely took my breath away.

tri10a
Who was your event coordinator?

KELLEY, who was amazing from day one.  I plan events for a living and I will admit that I was skeptical about planning the logistics from another country.  However, this ended up being very easy.  I was able to email back and forth with Kelley almost weekly to work on various details throughout the year.  She was able to take my vision (made up of photos I had sent to her) and run with it.

tri5a
Was planning your destination wedding at Las Caletas stress-free?

YES! First and foremost there was great communication.  I hired many other vendors outside of Adventure Weddings for our wedding week, and most often the response rate was unpredictable.  Kelley always kept me up-to-date on the logistics on her end.  Even if she didn’t have an answer for me on the day she promised, she would let me know that it was in the works.  This was very helpful.

tri14a
Was there any requirements out of the ordinary you had to have to make your wedding day complete?

I think Kelley would tell you that we had quite a few requests that were out of the ordinary.  Our centerpieces and aisle arrangements required special pricing from the florist and Kelley had to nearly buy Puerto Vallarta out of key limes to make everything work.  Additionally, we brought our own wine for a toast during our slideshow, and it took her entire staff to get the wine poured and distributed quickly.  Additionally, the order of our ceremony was different than the norm.  However, I was able to set-up a conference call with Kelley two weeks before the big day to talk through our time-line and the logistics of how everything would flow.  It all happened perfectly.

tri8a
What was the highlight of your wedding?

The entire day was magical.  Three things stand out the most though.  First, I had never seen the ceremony or dinner set-up prior to the wedding starting.  I had been hidden in the bridal casita all day.  When I finally reached the bottom of all of the stairs and started to walk down the aisle, I could not believe how beautiful the settings was.  Kelley and her staff had exceeded my expectations by about 10 times.  Everything from the chair ties, aisle arrangements, angle of the chuppah with the water; it was all breath taking.  Wow, wow, wow.

Secondly, we LOVED the fire dancers.  Our guests were already blown away with the beauty of Las Caletas and the fire dancers completed the event.

Last, but certainly not least, was Kelley.  I worried about nothing all day because she was there.  Throughout the day, she would keep me updated on the timing of the next event.  She was able to brief me on where the guests were, when the first dance would be played, etc.  Instead of wondering what was going to happen next, I knew well ahead of time and she took care of organizing everything.  The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is the logistics.  I was able stand back and take in every moment.

trishcollage

How did you spend your time on Las Caletas before your event?

My 6 bridesmaids and my mom came out to Las Caletas with me in the morning.  We had time to get settled in the bridal casita and then spent a few hours down by the beach.  There were virtually no tourists that day, so we had the beach to ourselves.  We had lunch about 1 p.m. and then started with hair and makeup.  Our photos started about 3:00 before the wedding ceremony which was at 5:45.

tri3a
What was your guest’s reaction to your celebration?

Although I wasn’t on the boat ride over with the guests, our hostess told us that our guests were speechless as the boat approached the ceremony site.  I always wanted something memorable, and the natural beauty of Las Caletas was the perfect location.  2 months later, people are still talking about how beautiful it was.

tri13a
Would you come back 25 years from now to Las Caletas and do it all over again?

Do I have to wait 25 years?  Absolutely!
Any tips or pointers for future brides coming to Las Caletas for their destination wedding?

If at all possible, do a site visit a few months prior to your wedding date.  It is very helpful to see the lay of the land since the area is so unique.  The earlier you can submit photos and requests to Kelley, the more quickly she can piece together your vision.  There were no last minute surprises because we had talked through the logistics of our day in advance.

Featured Wedding: Tara & Joe

The couple:  Tara and Joe Tronesstara-joe
The date:  November 2, 2008

Where/how did you meet?
Joe and I met at a little neighborhood bar, Al’s, in St Louis Park, Minnesota.
Joe was living two hours outside of the Cities at the time and came to the cities to visit his friend and they decided to make Al’s their bar of choice.   My then roommate and I decided to go to our favorite neighborhood bar, Al’s, to play some darts and golden tee.
As we fired up our first game of golden tee I kept having this feeling that someone was looking at me.  And each time I turned around I saw a cute boy in a North Face fleece and good jeans looking at me.  But as soon as I caught him, he looked away.  A few hours later cute North Face boy FINALLY came over and talked to me … about time!  We ended up talking the rest of the night and he got my number.  And the rest, as they say, is history.
taratronessnovember2nd1 (2)
Tell us about the proposal…
Being an event planner I travel frequently for work.  On a trip to Fort Lauderdale Florida it worked out perfectly for Joe to come along with me and join in on my work festivities.   We were super busy touring hotels, seeing venues, the city, and doing boat cruises and shows at night.  Every day we kept saying “tonight we’ll go out to the beach; we have to make it there before we leave”.  We both love the beach and the ocean and really wanted to take a minute to relax and enjoy it.  It was our last night there and we still hadn’t been to the beach.  So we grabbed some beers from the lobby bar and headed towards the sand.

At that point its pitch black out and we can’t really see where the path is that goes to the beach so we sat on the bench and decided that if we couldn’t enjoy the beach at least we’d enjoy the sound of the waves rolling in.  Joe starts talking about how we’ve been dating for a long time, how perfect we are together and I’m sitting there going “yup, yup, I know” thinking that he’s just being his usual cheesy self. Then all of a sudden he’s on one knee and holding up something that is catching the moon light and sparkling. Then he asks “will you marry me” I start hysterically laughing saying “are you kidding me?!” he’s like “uh, no. so will you marry me” me “yes, yes, of course I will” He puts the ring on and I cannot stop laughing, and hugging and kissing him. Then I say “we have to go back to our room! I need to see this ring… and call my parents!”

How did you discover Las Caletas and what made you chose it for your destination wedding?
We knew right away we wanted a destination wedding.  That decision was easy.  Figuring out where to have our wedding was the hard part.  We googled our brains out trying to find the perfect place.  We couldn’t find one!  We were starting to think we’d have to compromise our wedding vision because our vision didn’t exist in reality.  At this point I was directed, by a photographer, to Best Destination Wedding Forum.  Talk about a wealth of destination wedding information.

On Best Destination Wedding Forum there is a section dedicated to Las Caletas.  I clicked on it, curious what it was, and intrigued because it was in Puerto Vallarta and Puerto Vallarta held a special place in our hearts as it was our first vacation together.  I started checking out former Las Caletas brides pictures and was hooked.  Secluded, bon fire, tropical, breathtaking, sand isle, chuppa, the list goes on and on.  Every aspect of our wedding vision was unfolding before my very eyes.  As soon as Joe got home I showed him the Las Caletas pictures and he said “that’s it” to which I totally agreed!
The location had us mostly sold.  The rest was sold by Kelley, the wedding coordinator.  I submitted an online wedding inquiry.  I received an email back within 3 days.  And not just any email.  And email with serious wedding details and pricing and answers to all of my initial questions.  I was floored!  In our long quest of finding a wedding location I knew that this was not the norm.  I’d read horror stories of wedding coordinators what would take months to respond and then not even answer the brides questions. Kelley and I emailed a few times and then we were booked!

While we loved the LC location we also loved knowing that Kelley would be our wedding coordinator.  There was as peace of mind knowing that we had a great location AND a great person to support us on site.  Kelley took care of everything for us – from the minister, to my hair, to the chuppa, to the fire dancers, to my very specific flower requests, to bringing in my favorite beer.  Every random request Kelley had answers for and a way to make our wedding vision come true.
taratronessnovember2nd2 (2)
Who was your event coordinator?
Kelley! I could go on and on about how great she was and how lucky we felt to have her on our side for our special day.

Was planning your destination wedding at Las Caletas stress-free?  Were there any requirements out of the ordinary you had to have to make your wedding day complete?
Yes, yes, and yes!  As I said above Kelley was beyond fantastic.  Every single request or question I had she had answers for.  A great example of a random request that she made happen -  Dos XX is my husband’s and my favorite beer.  Las Caletas served Pacifico.  A great beer, but not our favorite.  I asked Kelley if she could work her magic and get us some Dos XX.  She said she’d look into it and then found a way to get Dos XX beer at our wedding.  Working with Kelley she made everything happen – from the smallest, silliest request, to big requests, she did it all.

What was the highlight of your wedding?
The highlight of our wedding was the experience and the memories we have from our wedding day.  We couldn’t pick one moment or one aspect of the wedding because it was all amazing and it all contributed equally to our wedding day.   It sounds so cheesy but it’s true.  I loved so many things about our wedding, but asking me to pick one thing is impossible!  Not only the tangible things like the setting, and the amazing vows, and the fire dancers, but the intangible things too, like the happy tears in our parent’s eyes during our ceremony, or the way my husband and I both smile when thinking about our wedding or looking at our pictures.  Our favorite thing about our wedding was our wedding – from start to finish we couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect.
One thing I do recommend for every bride and groom – take a minute to yourselves and look around you – soak it all up!

How did you spend your time on Las Caletas before your event?
My girls and I went over to Las Caletas in the morning.  We pulled in and the smile on my face wouldn’t go away.  Kelley and her staff helped us unload our wedding gear and we headed up to the bridal suite.  The views on the way up to the bridal suite are amazing!  We put our stuff down and quickly finished our wedding “to-do’s” and headed down to the beach.  Kelley brought us some beers and we grabbed beach chairs and spent the day relaxing and swimming.  It was perfect.  We enjoyed a lazy lunch and then headed up to the bridal suite to shower and start getting ready. It was the perfect start to a perfect day!

What was your guest’s reaction to your celebration?

Throughout the night our guests came up to me and asked “how did you pull this off?!  It’s amazing”  I just smiled and thanked them.  If they only knew how easy it all was!  Our guests loved it all!  By the end of the night they’d decided that a yearly vow renewal was necessary – they wanted to go back over and over again!
Our wedding is still being talked about… a year later!  I think it’s safe to say our wedding left an impression on our guests!

Would you come back 25 years from now to Las Caletas and do it all over again?
I’d come back year after year after year if I could!  We loved every minute of our wedding.
Any tips or pointers for future brides coming to Las Caletas for their destination wedding?
First, get the extra hour!  Time flies on Las Caletas and you’ll want that extra time on your wedding day.  Second, relax! they will take care of everything for you!  Third, make sure you take a moment to yourselves and look around and soak everything in!

tarakelley1

All of us at Las Caletas and Vallarta Weddings wish you both a very Happy Anniversary and long and joyous life together! We also look forward to celebrating an Anniversary with you at Las Caletas in the future!

27th October 2009

Romantic Puerto Vallarta

When you peruse guidebooks about Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, some of the adjectives used to describe the area and the people are beautiful, scenic, friendly, authentic and amazing …just to name a few. But one of the most used and most accurate descriptions is “romantic”.

Beautiful Downtown Puerto Vallarta
Beautiful Downtown Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta itself seems to have been built on romance. From the white washed Mediterranean architecture seemingly flowing down the mountains to meet the ocean to the sculpture lined boardwalk that parallels the ocean, the cerulean ocean and soft sandy beaches that beckon you to soak up the sun to the jasmine scented nights and clear star filed sky that beg you to dance beneath.

Las Caletas
Las Caletas

Yes, Vallarta is romantic. The music played by strolling trios, mariachi bands, even lone guitar players tugs at your heart, the sumptuous candlelit dinners implore you to share the decadent flavors from fork to tongue with someone you favor while the balmy nights with a slight chill in the whispering breezes entice you to move closer to your partner.
There are many amazing restaurants in the area that are perfect for couples and romantic dinners, from mountainside with amazing views of the city below to a linen draped table on the beach with a five star “toes-in-the-sand” menu. Inland or Oceanside, downtown or out of town, you have hundreds of choices but one of the best options for one of your nights is the Rhythms of the Night experience which features a wonderful catamaran ride down the magical southern coast of Vallarta to the exclusive cove and former home of John Huston. Las Caletas is one of those magical places that envelops all of your senses and opens the doors to imagination.

Las Caletas Lit Only by Stars, Torches and Candles
Las Caletas Lit Only by Stars, Torches and Candles

The sights of the performers lining the torch lit paths to the secluded dining areas, the tastes of the divine dinner selections, the sounds of nature and ancient rhythms, the feel of the tropical air caressing you and the smell of the night flowering blooms and ancient offerings being burned create a juxtapose of elements that set your emotions on fire.

Rhythms of the Night
Rhythms of the Night

Rhythms of the Night is a professionally choreographed show that combines acrobatics, modern dance with the ancient musical rhythms of the Pre-Hispanics in a natural amphitheater in the jungle.

There is nothing else like this in Puerto Vallarta, let alone anywhere else in Mexico, so if you are planning to visit Puerto Vallarta or Riviera Nayarit, this is one of those “must do” activities to add to your agenda, and if you are planning on proposing to the love of your life, there is no better place to get engaged. In fact, it is so perfect; you can even come back and get married here at Las Caletas.

Top 5 Reasons to Have A Destination Wedding in Mexico

We could probably give you a 101 reason why to have your wedding in Mexico but we will start out with the first five main reasons and work our way up from there.

lascaletas4
Destination wedding are the perfect venue for second marriages and commitment ceremonies:
When the giant traditional wedding does not tickle your fancy, or you have “been there, done that” and just want a simply gorgeous intimate wedding, destination weddings are the way to go. They can be hand tailored to fit exactly what you want and since this setting is “away from home” you get to call the shots. Commitment ceremonies and vow renewal ceremonies are also becoming much more popular and while not a legal ceremony per se; these profoundly spiritual and personal ceremonies bond the couple in unity, attest their commitment and celebrate their union in a gorgeous and natural setting.

lascaletas1
Virtually Stress Free Planning: Instead of spending countless hours, not to mention days or even months on end checking out wedding venues, comparing styles, colors and pricing on everything from flowers to photographers and everything in between on your home turf, put your dream wedding into the hands of a professional wedding coordinator who can turn your wishes into reality. She will show you the very best options that not only fit what you want but in the budget you have to work with. Give her your wish list and kick back and relax while all the leg work is done for you.

lascaletas2
Cost Effective: Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular due to the world economy and couples wanting the best bang for their buck. Choosing to get married in Mexico not only offers you an amazingly exotic and beautiful wedding location but it also gives you discount right off the top due to the current exchange rate which is about 20% to 30% more favorable than in recent years past. Not only will your purchases cost you less, so will your hotel accommodations, restaurants, taxis and nightlife. Before the exchange rate was typically 10 Pesos to one U.S. Dollar, today it is around 12.75 Pesos per Dollar. What used to cost you one Dollar in Mexico last year, now only costs you about 75 cents. What a bargain!

Not only will you save money right off the top, destination weddings allow couples to cull down their guest list and keep better track of their budget which is usually impossible to do on the couple’s home turf. Now you do not have to invite Evil Aunt Eleanor or your hyper cousins from Cincinnati who you know will tip over your wedding cake before you get to cut it.

lascaletas3
Two birds, One Stone: Destination weddings are also fabulous for combining the wedding with the honeymoon. Not only does this save a ton of money but decreases stress and extra travel time, plus what better opportunity to combine a family reunion at your union? Imagine, an amazing beautiful and exotic beach wedding, surrounded by your closest friends and family and afterwards you automatically are on your honeymoon and they are enjoying a magical and memorable vacation.

Perfect Weather: You do not have to wait for June to be a bride. In fact, when the climate turns to sleet and snow or brisk breezes and cold rain, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo san Lucas have virtually perfect weather. With sunny skies and average temps in the low 80’s to mid-80’s  (26 to31C) all winter long, a destination wedding offers you unbelievable weather in an amazing location designed to not only suit your tastes but your dreams.

If you are interested in having a destination wedding, vow renewal or commitment ceremony,  please give us a call at 1.866.731.8152 or contact us.

2007 – Rachel & Mark
–Came all the way from England to celebrate their special day with us and their closest friends and family! Unfortunately Mark had last minute surgery six weeks before their wedding and the poor groom had to wear a cast down the aisle. Despite that challenge,  it was a definitely a night to remember!

2008 – Christina & Chris – Christina and Chris took their time and worked with their Wedding Coordinator for over a year to create their dream wedding. A fleur-du-lis themed event was very unique to Las Caletas. A long family style table held all of their closest friends and family and themed decorations but the final touch that tied together “traditional” with Mexico was a fun and festive piñata for all of their guests.  Photos by Roberto Aceves.

2007 – Cathryn & Carlos
–Are celebrating their 2nd anniversary together. Cathryn and Carlos invited 50 of their friends and family to Las Caletas to celebrate their wedding.  Their personal style was completely incorporated into the event, from their snappy suits to elegant décor; their guests enjoyed a fun filled and lux beach wedding.

2008 – Kandi & Owen – Celebrating their 1st anniversary of marriage.  150 of their friends and family came from all over the world including; Europe, Jamaica and across the United States, to share their special day with them. All of their guests dressed in white which made for amazing photos. Owen’s two young sons stood up for them in the wedding and even started off the toasts for the evening. Music and drinks flowed through the evening and the fire dancers closed the show.

2007 – Crystal & Jacob
–Are celebrating their 2nd anniversary in Japan where they now reside – Avid travelers, they wanted a unique wedding location that allowed them to experience Mexico the way that they wanted to. They had 20 of their closest friends join them in Las Caletas. The invited guests dressed in blues and greens which made for stunning photos.  One of their friends serenaded them with a tropical guitar number as they shared their vows in the sand. Since Crystal is a photographer, you can imagine they had lots of great guest shots.

2008 – Elizabeth & Brian – They will soon be celebrating their 1st anniversary – Elizabeth and Brian were a very intimate couple – they came down to Caletas alone and had their ceremony on the beach during the day. While it was just the two of them, Kelley their Wedding Coordinator and Brad their minister, they had the wedding they both dreamed of… a beautiful ceremony, photos on the beach followed by champagne, lunch and joy.

All of us at Adventure Weddings wish our beautiful couples a very happy anniversary and many more years of happiness to come!

Tropical Destination Wedding Decor

While destination weddings are growing in popularity it is still difficult to find creative and beautiful decoration ideas for a tropical beach destination wedding. Many magazines offer up ideas that are great for country estates or formal weddings in colder climate settings, not the barefoot beach wedding along a lush tropical jungle that we propose.

redrose

Luckily we have an amazingly creative staff that not only knows what is available in Mexico but how to incorporate your unique tastes and vision to tie it all together in one perfect wedding knot.  If you want it vibrant and bold or understated with natural elements or anywhere in between, we can put your vision into fruition.

If you love vibrant color…

Like these amazing tones of fuchsia and magenta…

Or maybe a beautiful beachy blue suits you better…

A warm sunny yellow?

Or perhaps a fiesta of fun colors inspired by Mexico…

If you are more of a chameleon and prefer your wedding decor to blend in the natural beauty of Las Caletas, the options are almost limitless. From splashes of color to muted tones and natural touches borrowed from nature…

And the sea…

And the shore…

Or a maybe a burning torrid red that symbolizes your love…
